Mia Maugé
“My battle with ageing was won when I stopped fighting”
Mia Maugé
LONDON-BASED POSITIVE AGEING ADVOCATE
Disrupting beauty standards and marketing tactics since 2020. After many years of feeling ignored by beauty and fashion brands as a consumer, Mia decided to shake things up by changing the settings on her Instagram account from private to public. It was lockdown and Mia was 54, fed up with only seeing young faces in brand marketing whilst spending money in shops and online, she decided to find out if there were other midlife women on Instagram who felt the same way. Her only intention was to connect, and possibly create “some sort of platform” for midlife women to be visible, vocal and seen.
Unexpectedly, within four weeks, Mia was scouted by three model agencies, giving her the opportunity to actually be the representation she felt was so needed to help combat ageism and change perceptions of ageing.
Today Mia is not only a model. She is a panel speaker, a content creator, and a writer. She’s done commercial voiceovers, and landed a role as Disney’s first black, silver haired, middle-aged mermaid in the live action film; The Little Mermaid. Having recently written for Who What Wear, Sheerlux and The Metro, Mia is also a soon-to-be author. Her overarching mission is age inclusivity, and authentic representation of her generation. “Beauty transends age, because it exudes from within. Beauty isn’t simply youth. In my opinion there is nothing more beautiful than someone whose presence conveys a self confidence in who they are regardless of whether or not they meet societal beauty standards.”
Mia’s motivation for modelling is to be seen in spaces previously reserved for those that don’t look like her, be that her hair texture and colour, her skin tone, her age or her body type. Through both modelling and social media collaborations, in a short time, she has worked with an array of brands including; Vichy, L’Oreal Paris, Armani, Max Factor, No7, Sonder Hotels, Augustinus Bader, Marks & Spencer, Cult Beauty, Disney, Channel 4, Barclays Bank, Ilia, Coty, Liz Earle, Sky & Netflix, Coty, Beauty Pie and Russell & Bromley to name but a few.
Mia is seen as a role model for both the older and younger generation, talking about embracing the midlife years with vitality, gratitude and self appreciation, she aims to take the fear out of “this season” and to demonstrate that, '“..despite what we’ve been taught, midlife truly can be amongst some of the best years of your life!”.
